At Epsom and Banstead Pantries, we know that access to affordable groceries acts as a tool for building community, resilience, and hope. Our pantries provide access to affordable, and healthy groceries alongside information and advice, opportunities to volunteer and learn new skills, and a network of support.
They are not a crisis provision, but instead, are community-focused food shops run by and for their members. Our goal is to create an environment that empowers and supports individuals and families by strengthening their financial and emotional resilience. We know this helps to reduce dependency on food banks and fosters strong community support networks.

Epsom Pantry opened in July 2022 and Banstead Pantry opened in October 2024 with support from Reigate and Banstead Council and Raven Housing Association.
They offer a welcoming environment where members can choose the food they need, at an affordable price, in a dignified environment. For £5 a shop, members can select 10+ grocery items, including fresh meat, dairy and store cupboard essentials and enjoy access to free fruit, vegetables and bread.
“Being able to get the basic essentials means I will eat breakfast and lunch, which otherwise I would miss.”
For many, the real value of the Pantry comes from the connections made within the community. It’s not just about the food; it’s about the network of support. Members share recipe ideas, offer guidance, and connect over a coffee, creating friendships in a safe, non-judgmental space.
“The impact of the Pantry on my family is bigger than people realise. It is not just eating. It is quite literally a life saver.”
Our pantries offer opportunities to volunteer, develop new skills, and become part of a wider community. Whether you’re learning to cook, sharing budgeting tips, or simply connecting with others, the Pantry provides a space to thrive.
“I value the non-judgemental and welcoming environment. It’s a stressful time financially, having a supportive community makes it that much easier.”
In April 2023 we began our Pantry Steering Group because it is important that our members have influence over the development of the Pantry. The Steering Group involves members and volunteers in decision-making and ensures their contribution towards the planning, and delivery of Epsom Pantry at every level.
The group meets every six weeks and has built a supportive environment where members can be actively involved in the running of the Pantry. All the members of Epsom Pantry benefit from the work of the Steering Group as it has given members a greater sense of agency and empowerment. It has built a more socially connected and less isolated community through their projects and initiatives.
